Insurance for track day bike
 

Having "offically" given up road riding, I still want to keep the bike insured. Have spoken to a copuple of brokers about a fire and theft only policy, or an accidental damage policy but it seems to fall into the "too difficult" pile.

I intend to only use the bike for track days and the odd race, but it's still worth a fair bit, so need to keep it insured but remove the public liability and road risks.

Do racers have some policy to insire bikes for theft at the very least? Don't see why I need to pay the likes of Norwihc Union the full whack when there is no road risk.

As you only need to insure the bike for fire and theft while it's at home, do you think it would be possible to include it on your household contents insurance (which after all would include things like pushbikes kept in the garage) ?

Or am I talking cobblers ?

Not at all BC, but when I asked my house insurance about this, they said I was! Seems that because it's a "motor vehicle", it falls into the "too difficult" category.

Seems daft when you can insure a scrap of canvas with some paint daubed on it for considerably more than the bike is worth....

Did try to get them to insure it as an "exceptional" which is what I got my waches insured under, but no - "Too difficult"

Yeti, there is a company that insures race bikes and kit. They way it works is all your kiyt, tools, bike, etc. is covered as long as the engine is not running. So if you damage it unloading it from the van or your van catches fire, or it gets nicked, you're covered.

I use them and I think David Cook uses them as well. Very resonable rates.

Felix - are you sure they still do bikes?
 

We rang - several months ago now - and were told they no longer covered bikes. Did we just get someone who had been misinformed or have they changed their policy?

Not sure, Lizzie. News to me. That wouldn't be good. They were ace. Will have to look into this...
