Vmcc Festival Of 1000 Bikes 2012 - Schwantz Returns To Mallory Park!

The VMCC Ltd is proud to announce some very exciting news concerning this year’s event which will be held at Mallory Park on 6/7/8 July 2012.

In association with event partner Michelin none other than 1993 500cc GP World Champion “Revvin” Kevin Schwantz will be riding an Ex-works Suzuki RGV 500 in our “Past Masters” track feature on Sunday 08th July. This will be the first time Kevin has returned to Mallory Park since the 1986 Race of The Year.
Kevin stated “Mallory Park was where I first raced a 500cc GP 2-stroke, it was not a GP, but it was the first time I actually competed on a 500, thanks to my late friend Barry Sheene. It will be interesting to ride at Mallory Park after so many years!"

VMCC CEO James Hewing stated “Kevin Schwantz has been the most requested rider to head up this year’s “Past Masters” line-up & it’s is a huge privilege for us to make this dream come true for 1000s of race fans.”
Kevin Schwantz & Suzuki are always linked whenever his name is mentioned & this iconic manufacturer will be one of the theme’s for this year’s event as other original superstar team Members from both sides of the Atlantic including Phil Read, Tepi Lansivuori, Sean Emmett (KR Jnr World Championship winning 500), Mick Grant, Frankie Chili & Stan Woods take to the Track. Others original Suzuki Team Members just announced include Marco Lucchinelli & Randy Mamola! This track spectacular will involve the largest gathering of genuine ex-works RG500 Suzuki’s in the world. The machines are owned & operated by Steve Wheatman’s Classic Suzuki Racing Team and will be looked after by no less than 3 Ex-factory team Mechanics!

The VMCC are also delighted to announce that Ducati UK have joined us as a principle event partner who will be having a huge presence at this year’s event both on and off the track! Working in association with Ducati UK the VMCC will bring Ducati World Champions Carl “Foggy” Fogarty, Neil Hodgson, Tony Rutter, Phil Read Jnr (Ducati Vyrus), Alan Cathcart, Davide Tardozzi, Paul Smart, Dario Marchetti & other ex works riders including “Frankie” Chili (with more TBC) onto the track in an amazing feature showcasing Ducati’s incredible World Superbike heritage.

Anyone who has attended the event in 2011 to witness the return of “King” Kenny Roberts will have seen the massive “1970s sized” crowds that swamp Mallory Park on “Past Masters Sunday”. With more star riders than at any other event (& with many more TBC) the 2012 event will be no exception. Everyone from track participants to spectators can mix with all the star riders in the paddock making this the friendliest event of its type in the World!

Over the past few years “1000 Bikes” has become synonymous with the sheer variety of motorcycle sport on offer & the VMCC will be adding a Classic Motocross to the established mix of Trials, Grasstrack & Straight Line Sprinting this year. Also new for 2012 will be a huge Trade & Autojumble area featuring over 120 stands which will be situated at the end of the 50 strong Ave of Clubs display.

We drove up in torrential rain, they tried directing Kev and his camper in to a saturated field/swamp where a tractor would have been required to get you in let alone out.
In the end we made room on the DSC allocated space for both vans and set about getting soaked through while setting up and we were the lucky ones at the top of the hill on semi hard standing as the JCB was in constant use recovering vehicles at the bottom of the hill, even one road part way down the hil was more of a small lake.
Got to say the VMCC Marshalls inside the circuit were brilliant dispite being out in such awful weather for about 6 hours.
Amazingly it dried up Friday evening and we had very little rain for the rest of the weekend
