I love the...............................999 I dont know about you lot but with the introduction of the new 1098, which has to be said, is beautifull. The 999 has somehow become a bit extra special in my eyes. I have mused over the many threads on this site over the years. Some of which have slated the 999 and others that have been undicided. Me, i have always liked it. I even bought the first 999s in the country. It has to be said, even as a forma owner, it was never going to be as iconic as the 916 family but it was more modern and as a result a move forward technically if nothing else. However, as i have mentioned, somehow i like it even more now that it is officially dead. I have seen one or two in dealers this week and thought they do actually look good. Bearing this in mind i reacon that come the new year not only will there be some megga bargins about but it will be a bike that gains a special iconic appeal of its own. Just thought i would throw my thoughts into the melting pot and i bet Keefy has a comment on this. |
it will be a 2 wheeled Lancia Stratos!! |
Yes, I like it too - my 999 does look unique - there's been plenty of comparisons of what the 1098 looks like (to me its a bit Honda CBR600-ish), but the 999 just doesn't look like anything else. When I bought my 999 it was in the showroom with a load of 9*6s and 748s - they really looked old fashioned against it, though I think the styling of these earlier models is still stunning. They'll look good in 40 years in the same way a Gold Star or a Manx Norton still does now. Hopefully the 999 will be up there too in a few years time. The thing that will sell the 1098 is the performance. I think it's design could have been a little braver. |
I always remember what Clarkson said about the Alfa Romeo SZ (remember them??!) in the '90's...! "So ugly its beautiful.." Nat |

Yes, a truly stunning car. In fact I've just looked them up on the Autotrader website and there's 7 within 200 miles, ranging in prices from £17k to £22k. So if they were about £30k new they've held their value well! |

i think the 1098 is a good thing for the 999 because its not a challanger for the 999 is a new version of the 916 which means the 999 will allways be the 999 and its not as tho its not been successful is it sbk bsb championships ....its needs to be a dame good bike to make me sell my 999r and i dont think the 1098 is it italian bikes should be raw and unique just like the er er er the 999 |
well they say love is blind.... |

I love 999's me. P.S, I do quite like the look of the 1098,but it is very bland. The styling looks a mess of R1/Triumph/MV bikes.Someone posted a pic of a yellow 1098 next to a Triumph Daytona,.....it looks exactly the same! |
