Paint Codes!!!!

Hi all

I know this has been on the board before, but cant find all the details.

Red Colour Code for the Panels!!

Called Ducati UK and got a paint code from them, got some paint made up sprayed it on and guess what? no match!! it is far too light and looks more orangey than red, any ideas??

Thanks

Rob

Rob,

Do a search on here for "PPG". That'll give you all the info you need.

Cheers, Neil

I remember someone mentioning Halfrauds paint code:

Plasti-Kote Bright Red (1120) Super Gloss.

I wrote it down, not sure why though. Maybe I was anticipating this thread!!! :eureka:

Ade.

I've been there! My ST spent all last year with it's right hand side sprayed up an orangey colour, and I spent all year with my mates taking the ****.

Same story, go to a paint factor with the Ducati paint code or colour name and even if they're a PPG paint supplier (PPG provide the Ducati factory with their paint) you're likely to find that the paint is too orange.

The only way is to take a panel with the colour you want into the paint factors and get them to match it. I took my scuffed up seat panel in 'cos there was still plenty of original colour left on it.

My Ducati is in "Anniversary Red" which gave me the orangey colour when made up by paint code. The matched colour was actually made using "Ducati Rosso" (which doesn't look anything like the right colour in the swatch book) that was then tinted with various darker reds until it was right.

RS Bikepaint in Barnsley will insist that the Ducati red is not one shade but changes depending on model and year. If you phone them (details below) they will ask you some details and if they have a match from their database they will guarantee the match (i.e. refund if not right). ONly once I have had to decide if I thought 2002 ST2 blue was a match for 2002 M620 blue. It was.

Touch up sticks cost £6 from them, the blue was a set of 3 but the red for my 749 was a single one. Aerosol cans are £10 a shot and I resprayed the metallic silver panels on my ST2 with it and it turned out very well. (see pics on the home page link below if you want to see the results - ST2 section). I'm thinking of getting 1/2 litre can of red to spray my race fairing to match the tank. That comes in at £38 though.
