Help needed!! 1098 with can 38.0 error
 

Hi, not been on here for a while but could really do with some help please!!
My 2009 1098s has been sat for a while.
On Saturday I bought a new battery and got it mot'd and new tyres fitted.
Went for a blast and everything was going really well for 15 miles.
All of a sudden the bike cut out with no warning while doing 60
-70 mph and completely died with the fuel injection light coming on.
Pushed it to the side of the road and tried turning it on and off, ignoring it And other things like swearing but it wouldn't turn over.
So bike has power, fuel ( I checked), fuel pump pressurises when turned on but it will not turn over!
Fuel injection light stays on and dash is saying CAN 38.0 error, :(

Can anybody help me with this?

Crikey, how does it suddenly develop a CAN line error (CAN 38.0 CAN line error)
I suppose you start by checking the usual suspects, such as the small relays and looking for corrosion on connectors

As Skids says, check the usual suspects. If that does not work disconnect the dash and clean the connector with Contact Cleaner. Unfortunately, that means taking the cockpit fairing off.

Just realised that since the bike cut out, the neutral light isn't working, would that make a difference?
It has been working but I wonder if that's related?

Talking to a friend of mine (retired dealer) apparently it will not start if there is no signal from the neutral switch?

Also the 749/999 (different bike I know) had a problem with the rear light wires chaffing on a bracket causing similar starting issues.

As Neil says it could be Neutral related, but with the side stand UP and the Clutch pulled in I think it should override the neutral interlock, worth a try

Hi,
It turns out after a lot of mucking around and taking bits off it was the 5 amp fuse in the fuse box. :(
I checked this fuse with a meter and had continuity but when I fitted it back in the fuse box it didn't work for some reason (stress fracture?)
Anyway its all back and working and cost 1.50 for a couple of fuses :)

It was number 6 I think, 2nd fuse in from the right hand side :)

That's the fuse for the ECU then
