Chain - Tight spot

Hello

Very happy ST4s owner here

Can anyone explain why I always seem to get a tight spot on chain driven bikes. What causes it?

I am very careful adjusting and lubricating the chain and I am a careful rider (ie I don't pop wheelies or generally give the bike real stick)

I knew I had a tight spot last Autumn and It was commented on at the MOT a couple of weeks back. I presume it is still OK to ride (making sure I adjust correct tension at the tightest spot) short term but probably means new chain and spockets before I head down to Bordeaux for the wine festival this summer.

The bike has done 13,000 miles so chain etc probably about due for renewal but I don't want to put on a new chain set and get another tight spot straight away.

Is this just a normal sign of aging on a chain? as seem to get them on most chains I have fitted over the years.

The tight spot is actually the region of chain that has stretched or worn the least. You need to replace a chain when it has stretched beyond allowable limits.

never had a chain that dont get one sooner or later

Thanks Shazam and Glyn

I will measure my chain at the weekend.

Anyone doing good deals on chain sets at the moment?

Regards

Daryl
