Engaging Nuetral

am having difficulty engaging nuetral, when the engine is on. Bit of a PITA when in town. When the engine is off it drops in no problem.

Have checked chain which is showing 38mm deflection Spec is 30- 35. Can 3mm off spec cause this problem, or should I be looking elsewhere.

Bike is 2004 749, 3600miles ish

Also I quite fancy changing the chain and sprockets, any suggestions?

cheers

The clutch thing is currently discussed here.

A for the the sprocket choice, this has been covered ad-infinitum in recent months. Use the search page at the top left and you'll find lots of stuff ;)

Hope to see you down at Box Hill at the next Surrey meet :)

I shall purchase a bleed kit this evening and do the deed.

Should make Boxhill this weekend if there is another rideout. Will give my chain a good scrub till I decide what to do about that. Having difficulty finding who sells Regina.

regina!

Send a U2U to jamcoly as he's just got a new chain, front and 2 rear sprockets for a damn fine price off of ee-by-gum-bay ;)

If you hadn't said you have a lot of slack in your chain I'd say you were having difficulty getting neutral cos it was too tight (eh Pete!!!), as it is you're probably not getting full plate release in your clutch (clutch drag) and either need to bleed your system through (how close to the handlebar does the lever come when disengaging the clutch?), maybe you'll get away with just trying to adjust your clutch lever span out a bit so you get more movement ;)

I have recently have had the same problem with my 999. It seems the new type of slave cylinder is similar to the old one, it can weep. I thought my chain was slack and was causing bad neutrals, but after bleeding the system all was fine.

System bled and all is well. Has taken a bit of getting used to the bite point being so far away from the bar though
