Progress on the Hybrid 600/620

I'm running a 620 engine in the old 600 SS chassis for this season, and so far we've stripped the bike down to the frame and dry-fitted the new engine in. Lucky no modifications were needed as it fits like a glove :D

So now we've stripped it back down and sent the frame off to be powder coated, and Mark has dropped the top yoke into the stripper bath (I did ask, but he said it wasn't that kind...) and given it a coat of clear.

Let's just say it'll look pretty good until the first crash ;)

Ant do you have to cut that frame brace to fit the fuel injection as you say no mods were required to fit the engine.

antonye 25-Jan-2006 00:51

Nope, nothing needed to be cut at all. Mine was a '97 vintage SS if that makes any difference! I thought the brace would foul but it fits fine.

We built it right up to the airbox in the dry fit, so the only thing left to do is mount the electrickery once we're ready, but that should be trivial.

I've got some pics somewhere of the new engine in the frame, so I'll dig them out and post them for you.

Well if its as straight forward as you say, I may look at ripping the engine out of the M620 and sticking it in a SS frame ready for 2007, I much prefer the size and feel of my 600SS to the 620 Mosters.

ant any idea when your getting out for a warm up?

Yes, it really was that easy. The only things that you need to do is sleeve the two engine mounts (or drill out the frame to fit the larger bolts) and then make up two short brackets for the rear mounting points of the airbox, as these are about an inch inside and an inch lower than the SS. But that's it!

Frame should be ready this weekend, so once I have that back we'll start rebuilding the bike. I don't think it will be ready until March at the earliest as we have other (time consuming) things to do, but I reckon a mid-march run out would be spot on.

ericthered40 25-Jan-2006 01:38

I was going to wait till then but suddenly had the inexplicable urge to go out on the 5th of Feb. and if I Liv the 26th as well.

Always best to ride the bike your going to have your first race on A

Mid march sounds good for the next outing.

antonye 25-Jan-2006 01:41

Well I'm on hols the weekend of the 5th and fly back out to San Fran on the 26th, so it will be the first chance I get!!
