749 or 749s

Looking at changing the 748 for a 749, should I get the S model over the Bip?
Have ridden an S and it was very nice, lovely secondhand example with some goodies fitted to it, should I buy this or a new bip?

Really confused now

...so please tell us your impressions of the 2 side-by-side

Wow that is a tough one.

There is very little differance between the 749 and the S version. The only differances that I can see are the S version is available in single/dual seat, its got the adjustable steering head and a Showa shock instead of a Boge.
BHP figures are the same.

LesPaul 15-Aug-2003 13:31

Both come with either 1 or 2 seats ;)
S has adjustable foot pegs Bip doesn't, gold nit whatever forks, showa rear shock and adjustable rake are the only other differences.

Ooops, yes you're right about the seats.
So unless you are fussy about suspension, steering angles or footrest position, the standard one will do the job!;)

And if your really fussy about suspension

You could buy the 749 instaead of an S and put a rear Ohlins on it and maybe some carbon bits with the £800 change

Does that 749S in Forza have your name on it?
It is beautiful.

The showa front end is much nicer on the 749S, also on my 999 I run the steep head angle to sharpen turn-in. You wouldn't be able to do this on a base 749.

A quick question though. Why not get a 999 instead? There must be some ripper deals available on dealer demo bikes etc.

Yes there are some deals on demo bikes, but would you want a bike that has been ridden by the world and his wife and not been correctly run in?
The last time I had a go on a demo bike (749S),I was told to keep it to 5,500 rpm as the engine was tight.I got around the corner and thought,Ah b0ll0x to that, and gave it the berries.I wonder how many others have done the same thing.;)

Having said that, I bought an ex-demo 900SS FI and kept thrashing it and had no trouble whatsoever!
You pays your money.........;)
