749 Brake Judder

Out on my 749 yesterday and a few miles from home I kept getting some nasty brake judder from the RHS calliper. I stopped found nothing I whouldn't but still it persisted. I stripped the brakes, cleaned and rebuilt and all seems well again - goingto take it for a proper blast tonight though. I noticed some marks on the disc. I can only conclude that I had a stone or something caught but to me seem unlikely.
What does the collective widom think? Likely or not? Anyone else experienced anythin similar?

Cheers,
Stu :puzzled:

Errr, what do you mean by judder? Brake sticking on slightly? Or a pulsing through the lever when braking??

I had an accident last month which may have been caused by a faulty calliper on my 749S - Ducati and Brembo are looking into it.

What model 749 do you have? When was it registered?

stuart hill 21-Mar-2005 13:47

I meant pulsing through the lever, it felt like something was trapped between disc and pad. I'm going to try it again tonight but it doesn't inspire me with confidence.
The bike is a '04 reg 749 Bip.

If it's through the lever, how do you know it the RHS caliper that's causing it?

I'd get the bike checked by your dealer personally. Would that be Ducati Manchester?

I've heard many things about Ducati Mnchester from friends, not all good I have to say. I've had a poor experience with them myself when one of my coils was knackered.
What the score with them then?? :puzzled:

Twinfan 21-Mar-2005 14:09

I've not heard anything about them, good or bad, to be honest.

However the pattern re. bikes with brake faults is getting interesting...

Stuart,

I can only go off what Twinfan is currently going through, have a look at his previous threads, his 749 chucked him off without any warning, and it looks like the braking system was to blame currently (not confirmed yet). And he purchased his bike from Ducati Manchester also.

I cannot comment on their servicing if I am honest. I too know of a few horror stories, but you could probably say the same for any dealer in all honesty.

I live approximately 10 minutes away from Ducati Manchester and pass the place twice a day, although I have never had any of the Ducati's I have owned/currently own serviced there if that's anything to go on

I'll be taking iot out again tonight to see if the same thing happens. Hopefully bike and rider will return home in one piece!
