749BP v 749s
 
I am currently looking at trading in my 748BP for a used 749. the thing is i'm unsure whether to go for a BP or the S, is there a noticable difference in power/torque between the two or are they pretty much the same...?

I know the S on paper is more powerfull but wondered how that translates when riding the actual bike. Also will I notice a difference in power/torque compared to my 748BP.

Also I currently have a PCIII on my 748 will this work on the 749 if I fit termi exhuast...?

749r is the weapon of choice !!

not sure about the bip / s debate..pretty sure within a few hours you will have a better idea

don't think you can use 748 pc for 749..
i know the 749 and 999 are interchangeable..:rolleye::rolleye::burn:

PC111 for a 749 is a 715-411 and the one you should have on the 748 is 704-411 so no it will not work on a 749.

Did they stop doing the 749s as a bip then? I have a 2003 749s bip so you can have both. in that year, the 's' had TiN forks, not sure if much else. From 2004 though (as I have just been RELIABLY informed today) the 749s shared the valve retaining mechanism with the 749R. That means a much longer (read: expensive) service if clearances need adjusting. The 749 from 2004 doesn't have that. Kinda puts me off trading up to a later 749s, even though there was a load of engine mods to give a power hike in 2004.

So pre 2004 749s and 749BP have the same engine. I thought the S was 116bhp and bp 108bhp...?

There was a 749 (cooking version) and a 749S. Both were available in biposto if you wished, I know that because I have a 749S bip and my mate has a 749 bip. I BELEIVE the 749 and 749S had the same engine that year, but I am not certain of that.

Here goes:

The 749 was launched in 2003. There were two models regular 749 and 749S. The engine was the same in both bikes. Both were available in monoposto or biposto format. Red and yellow. The 749S had higher spec suspension which was a Showa shock in place of the Sachs on the regular 749 and Titanium Nitrided forks. I think the forks themselves are a different spec as well.

In 2004 the 749 Dark was launched. Only available in biposto and matt black format. Same engine and chassis as the regular 749 but no steering damper. The 749S got a power hike via engine mods as mentioned above. The regular 749 was unchanged. The 749R was launched with full carbon fairing, full Ohlins, R spec swingarm, top spec motor etc.

In 2005 all models received the new fairing style with no upper vents. The 749 Dark was otherwise unchanged. The regular 749 is only available in biposto format and it got the swingarm style from the R models. The red bikes got black wheels and red frames. Yellow bikes stayed with silver frames and wheels. The 749S gets the fairing, swingarm and frame colour changes too and is now only available in red as a monoposto, or red and yellow as a biposto. The 749R loses its carbon fairing.

There you go - clear as mud!

I have an '04 749S and the power difference between the Dark and regular 749 models I'm told is fairly small. I haven't ridden the lesser models so I can't comment from experience. I bought the 749S for the upgraded suspension, which to me is the most important thing on a road bike rather than outright power.

The other difference is the 749s has the ajustable footrests
