broken bolt...grrrr Anyone got a brand of extractor kit they would recommend? Got a broken 7mm exhaust stud on one of the kids vespa's cheers pete |
Never sucessfully removed one Pete. Always had to drill and tap or helicoil. Definitely M7? seems an odd size, usually 6 or 8. |
If you have got any of the stud showing, then a stud extractor and a lot of heat prior to trying to turn it may work. Safest bet is remove barrel/head (2/4 stroke option) and give to an engineering shop. They will remove on a mill, using an end mill that wont wander like a normal drill. Bad news is if you use an Eziout and it snaps of (the small ones are very brittle) then the only way to get it out is with spark erosion. I learn't these lessons the hard way! Chris |
Also of you do not have access to a helicoil etc. Drill the old stud out M7 Drill the hole to 8.5 Tap the hole to M10 with a taper tap only File an M10 bolt to a blunt point. With thread lock screw the bolt in tight Cut the bolt off at face level Drill and tap the new bolt to M7 Bit long winded but really does work if you have a limited budget or access to tools. :D |
