help-tyre safe?

just got back from a great trackday
very fast:burn:

and my rear 700mile old (approx) D208RR has got a bit of a slit in it:flame:
is it anything to worry about?
whats caused it?

I noticed Loz had a similar mark in his front tyre too
but his are well worn

If you can't see the canvas it will be fine mate.

If you can see canvas on that tyre, I'd sue Dunlop!
The legal position on cuts is......
A cut in excess of 25mm or 10% of the section width of the tyre , whichever is the greater, measured in any direction on the outside of the tyre and deep enough to reach the ply or cord would deem the tyre illegal.
As it's at max a 190 tyre, you have 25mm to play with..................

got the tyre changed on Thursday
with a new spare I had in the garage (brought at the same time as the other one!).

so went out to scrub the new tyre in today
stopped at a pub for a lunch stop after doing less than 60 miles,

quick check of the chicken strips
and what do I see
a spit :flame::(

Argh not happy-bike less again.

Get em both posted back to Dunlop sharp James, and if you don't get your forks fixed for Mallory then the offer still stands ;)

is tyre safe

only just joined !!. the split is called open tread joint ! would you believe its where the rubber joins. remember racing tyres are made to last A RACE how many miles did you do ?. Do any of you guys know just how tyres are made? Dont think so after seeing some of the comments.O by the way if you carried on using tyres with this (split)tread joint open it will get bigger and fail by this I mean the whole tread could delaminate ie come off the carcass. Glad to see it was changed.
