racetechs?
 

i've been offered pre used metzler racetechs (about ten laps)
what do you reckon are they any good maybe for road use if they survive a trak day?

Racetechs are Race tyres, take a while to heat up for road use, be careful till they get warm.

I ride with pre-loved racetech's. Can be a bit skittish when cold but in my experience don't take long to warm up.
There are better road tyres if that's all you want them for.

cheers guys i'll probably destroy them on the track before i get a chance to try them on the road. i'm glad that you use pre-loved racetechs nbs996, as someone told me that you should'nt use used tyres cos when they get hot then removed then put on a different bike it can cause to much stress on the tyre wall, have you heard that? i know of a couple of others who use these racetechs and they haven't had a problem!:roll::roll:

I have just moved over to these from rennsports.
I have used 120/180 in the past for fast road, went onto pre-loved 120/190-55 racetecs.

I have always given my tyres some warm-up time, otherwise they will slide, but these have been great - although I do only ride in the dry and warmer weather.

Only 2 brief rides this season:sniff:

m8, you have nothing to worry about, not for a second. Long as you know the person you['re buying from is straight up about their history and number of laps....

Nope, never heard of that. Don't understand why it might be either... but then I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed!
I got mine from some1 I know and they'd done a single heat cycle (12 laps of Mallory) so were good as new.

I'd not think twice about doing the same again, it's a huge cost saving!

cheers fellas! i'll do it! so is a 190/55 gonna be a problem on my 748? i'm not sure if i can get hold of any other sizes ie. a 180. my mates both using these racetechs have 190/55s, on a gsxr600 and a mille! i don't want to crash again!! :( at least not till the end of the summer!:lol:

Couldn't comment on suitability for a 748, but be aware they've got a higher profile than other tyres so if you've got a hugger fitted then you might have an issue with clearance.

I had the same issue here - wanted to go for 180 but they only use 190's.
I have the 190 fitted on a 5.5 rim (rear) - it does give a steep edge, so when you are off the edge your toes are touching, but there is definately bags of grip - also noticed they tip in a bit quicker - even with the rideheight reset to previous :)
