Safety Recall ST3

Just had a recorded delivery letter from Ducatti UK telling me that it may be necessary for my dealer to fit a shorter air box breather hose because of the possibilty that it might touch the horizontal exhaust pipe which would be dangerous.
Has anybody else received a similar notification? The bike's frame number is:- ZDMS300AA3B000741

Nothing in the post to date. I wuld assume it is a vey simple fix. Did you have a look to see if you can spot the problem? I will have a gander tomorrow when it is light.

Safety Recall

I'm sure you are right Micko. It must be a simple matter. I haven't checked it out for myself. Will leave it to my dealer.
It seems such an obvious thing to have been right in the first place. What is it with motorcycle manufacturers?
Cars never seem to have these silly little problems.
I shall be interested to know if the hose on your bike is OK.

Ariel,
I had a good look at the breather hose routes and lengths yesterday. I could find nothing wrong. However, given that there is a recall I would suggest dropping into your dealer just in case they are not giving us all the facts. My frame no. is younger than yours but I suspect my notification is in the post.

"Cars never seem to have these silly little problems."-no, they go in for MUCH bigger problems, like the current one with Fiats of the fuel tank leaking and the car catching fire.:o

My favourite car recall is the one for Citroen Picasso's.

The brake pedal could fall off:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

I guess I've been more than lucky with all my cars guys. Never had any problems at all with the last six. Just filled them up with petrol and done about 380,000 trouble free miles.
On my Multistrada in 1900 miles:-
Leaking petrol Tank.
Leaking oil lines.
Faulty LCD display.
Grabby brakes.
Loose rivets on mirrors.
Very noisy clutch.

On my ST3 from delivery
Duff Battery
Unnacceptable low down fuelling (mod has put this right)
Coolant leak
Possible air box breather hose problem.
All these items save the last one have been put right but can we all agree that there is room for improvement with Ducati's build quality? Or are we blind to all this?

This recall also applied to the other ST models. The air box breather hose is supposed to locate in a grommet in the lower fairing panel but it is possible that it may not be fitted properly when the panel is re-fitted at servicing. With the result that the pipe can contact the exhaust and catch fire. There have been several recorded incidences in the US. The fix is to shorten the breather hose by a few inches so that it cannot contact the exhaust.

ST3 Recall

Thanks Derek. I can see what the potential problem is now. Obviously care is needed when re-fitting the panels.
Was this a problem with the ST2 as well?
If so it makes one wonder why it has taken so long to bring this issue to light.

The ST4 and ST4s were also affected. I don't think it applied to the ST2 but it may have done.
