HELP (58)H rated tyre In trying to save my self a few quid, I think I may have caused my self a massive hassle! I bought these from here http://www.motorbiketyresuk.com/pire...yres-138-p.asp Having just removed my wheels from my 748 ready to go get the new tyres fitted tomorrow I have noticed the speed ratings of the new pirelli's do not match that of my old dunlops. Rears are same, 180/55 ZR 17 (73W) But the old front 120/70 ZR 17 (58W) is not the same as the new one 120/70 R 17 (58H) Is it safe to fit? have I been sold a moped tyre? why would someone sell me supersport fitment tyres that are only 130 mph speed rated. Thought I had found a good deal, not so sure now:mad: |
Will you be doing over 130mph? |
In all honesty probably not, much, on track I don't think it quite gets up there, but its still below the manufacturers recomended speed rating, which could invalidate my insurance and she will pull 140-50, and I could forget I'v got a wrong tyre fitted and do it, then what happens? |
Also its only an R construction, not a ZR, not sure on the difference, but its not what pirelli recomend for the bike, so guessing handling could be not as intended. Will be making some calls tomorrow, nothing's ever easy! |
If you're that worried, send it back and tell them they've supplied the wrong tyre. At worst you might have to pay a bit more for the right one? |
Indeed, going to have to, not quite the weekend of running in a new set of tyres I had planned! Do you not think I should be so worried? |
It's your choice, but I think getting the correct tyre is the best thing to do. |
Quite right, thanks Is good to hear from someone else too |
Turns out the guys that sold me the tyre were very apologetic, will refund the tyre and return postage and believe they have been sent a batch of incorrect tyres from pirelli. I'v sourced another tyre, so apart from being a bit inconvenient all should work out ok. |
For what its worth I think you are doing the right thing the h rated tyre would have heated up alot quicker and made the rear feel strange and in turn no confidence in handling so good choice:-) |
