Sadly, its just too strange that only early this morning I wanted to search down the crank case protector that had been mentioned here in the past.

Bad luck and hope that you were ok.

Sorry to hear your news

Ducati (very cleverly) discontinued the chain protector.

Someone was looking into making them

Hiya guys if someone has a decent picture or a crankcase protector or a sample i can get some of these made if its of any interest to you guys, i think i will get one made for my bike anyway if a broken chain causes that much damage to the engine

stu748, If you do manage to make some. I would be up for one aswell. had thought about knocking one up. getting a bit fed up of reading these posts and not being prepared.

We should make a list of all the BRANDS that are snapping, as I will be buying a new chain VERY soon.

Tbh imo chains snap for one reason mostly - poor maintenance or mal-adjustment. I know sometimes you get batches of bad chains but.....

I've seen some shocking examples of chain maintenance.

My Sprint RS chain is 3 years & 15k miles old, it has been adjusted twice. The one of my VFR750 went to 30k miles in 7 years with no more than a couple of adjustments as well.

Asides from oil/filter changes it's one of the most important maintenance items and one of the easiest to fug up. Putting small 14t gearbox sprockets on stresses them as well - best stick to 15t and go up on the rear sprocket instead if you want to gear the bike down.
