I\'m Confused 851 What have I got? It is an 851 with Aluminium Tank Redline at 10k Its 89 and a Strada with 17" Wheels 180 rea tyre It says 851 S2 On the plate what does that mean Is it a bog standard Strada with a few bits or is it an SP2? Put me out of my misery NP:( |
Sounds like Strada as most of the SP's have a single seat and a very clear plate in the middle of the headstock that tells you which SP it is and it's number in the run for that model. Rgds, Rob |
sounds like its a bitsa then, I wonder why the ali tank? Its not standard is it? I know Ducati had some problems when they were building these with the bank so maybe they just put togetehr the bits they had. Cheers a disappointed NP  |
851 I'm pretty sure the only way to check if you have an SP or an early Roche replica is to look at the injectors, all SPs had twin injectors per body. Strada's and the American SPO had one injector per body. the SP2/3 came with alloy tanks,SP3 with carbon fibre and the SP4/5 with steel tanks. also the SP2 came with low level pipes, the SPS had carbon fairing and the radiator fan removed to save weight. is yours an early white frame and wheels model? hope this helps ian |
Hi White frame and wheels, only one injector per inlet though so probably just a bog standard strada with some later bits. Revs to 10k like a sp though? Whats an SPO? NP :sing::sing::sing::sing::sing::sing::sing: |
Cap'n My '92 851 Strada used to rev out to 10,000rpm - Sp5 revs out to 10,500-11,000rpm. Otto |
The question comes from reading the ook I just bought called something like 851/888 performance review that said the stradas redlined at 9k and sp at 10k so it looks like I have a later rev counter. Then again these journo types are very unreliable. NP |
SPO NP The SPO was for the Americans only it is baicaly a Strada engine with a single seat and hi-level pipes there was one on Ebay that went for £7,500 i expect the buyer thought he was getting a type of SP. I take it your refering to the book titled Ducati 851/888 performance portfolio by Brooklands books? ian |
Thats the one old bean. Many a happy hour spent hiding in the loo reading that NP |
