998 wiring woes

Right. I fitted the 998 loom to the bike no problem apart from......... The kill switch/starter does not work. Flick the switch (replaced key ignition) and everything comes on, oil light, fuel pump, relays but the kill switch and starter button are not in the loop, in fact I can disconnect the main round plug for the front harness with no effect? Also there is a small 2 pin white plug next to the relays which I have no idea what it is for.

I hate electrics help please

Just had a thought.

Are the 998 ignition relays specific?

dunlop0_1 09-Aug-2014 09:25

Not the relays.

So the pump primes, manually bridge solenoid to turn over and you get one spark and no fuel

Also does not matter if the side stand switch is bridged or not

Sorted. :)

Turns out that the 998 pump primes on the key and Ducati in there wisdom changed one wire in the front harness.

Got to love my drawings though LOL. Feckin hate wiring.

Dont you know talking to yourself is the first sign of madness? Glad you got it sorted, that looked like a nightmare.

Yep all sorted no thanks. To be honest it was an archive post from 10 years ago on DSC that helped me out.

:D

sorry for the thread hijack but how wildly different would a 1098 or 749/999 loom be seeing as they use the same ECU

sure some things will be in slightly different places and dash is different, but could looms for these bikes be adapted to fit the 998? they are certainly more available

dunlop0_1 07-Sep-2014 11:39

Kev Ellis is yer man to ask but the canbus system the 749/999 uses I think is also on the 1098 so the loom differences could be substantially different?

998 main loom is rarer than rocking horse s**t. I managed to get two recently, one for the bike and one spare but they where not cheap.

These bikes use CanBus the 998 doesn't

The 749/999 setup is very similar to that of the 848/1098/1198 using mainly the same connections on the ECU and minor changes to the dash, partly due to the 999 dash using built in buttons to change settings etc, whereas the 1098 setup uses the left hand switch gear.
I am converting both my 998R and my 998 Hybrid to the 1098 dash and Harness. Although I could reprogram a standard ECU to run them I will be going with a Nemesis ECU on both of them
