1998 748 BP What Price?
 

I am putting my '98 748 BP up for sale in a week or two and am wondering what a fair price would be. Obviously I don't want to give it away!

Nearly 15000 miles on the clock, new MOT, new Tax, new service including belts. Bike is standard and in good used condition. Go faster yellow! 2 owners including me from new. Big pile of service history receipts from Ducati specialists.

What do you guys think?

£3500 for it.

But then its not for sale.

I sold my 1997 748 Bip about a year ago for around £3750-£4K ish (can't actually remember!)...but it was 100% mint with loads of goodies (termis, single and bip seats, ohlins rear shock, carbon etc.).

The guy (deej) who bought it really wanted it...I guess I was lucky in that sense, but since then, prices do seem to have tumbled a bit.

I honestly think, that unless you find someone who really really wants their first Duke, put on the open market, you will struggle to get anything over £3K.

I just bought a Y plate 748bp for £4k. It only has 2500 miles, very clean and seems genuine.

Tyres are a bit worn and it doesn't have any fancy goodies other than Corse carbon bits at either end of the tank.

Trade in price would be nearer £2800-£3000 the book price for a 1999 748bip in standard trim is £3100-£3200 with 11000mls on the clock .

a dealer would laugh at you if you mentioned anywhere near £4000

A dealer might not laugh if he is desperate to sell a 2004 model and will part ex.

So looks like £3000 to £4000 then. Well I will probably go for £3800 as I have the carbon Termis and chip to sweeten the deal and a paddock stand. I have a load of carbon bits and a single seat as well but I want to keep hold of that stuff as I fancy a 996 one day!

For my early 98 I bought from a dealer this year, with 13K on it I paid £3600 - BUT this was with standard cans, I then had to buy a set of carbon termis, and put a new alarm / immob on it ( £350 ) - so it actually cost more like £4500 ( wont mention how much more I've spent since on more carbon, slave cylinder etc.... )

It had had a full service with belts 600 miles previously, is almost mint condition, 2 new tyres, carbon hugger, mudguard, V piece, loads of receipts for engine work, services etc.... 12 month T&T, 12 month warranty - compared to what else was around at the time it was pretty much a steal.

If you look what dealers are charging for similar bikes to yours ( I saw some right old dogs they wanted over £4500 for on M plates, N plates etc... )

Personally if the bike is in really good nick with service history etc... I'd ask a higher price and then haggle down a bit if selling privately.

YES, there are cheaper 748's available, but mostly they tend to be either due a main service / belt change ( so the sellers are getting rid rather than pay for it ) or have no history or are in rough condition.

There are buyers out there ( like me at the time ) who will pay more for the peace of mind of getting a really good bike with a known history, rather than take a risk on some old shed that hasnt been maintained and is likely to cause more expense in the future.
