Neutral hard to select
 
My 1098 is giving me a couple of problems. Can anyone offer advice.

1st. When it is in first gear but clutch lever pulled fully in the bike still creeps forward. I put it on the paddock stand and tried it and the rear wheel was moving pretty fast.

2nd. It is very difficult and sometimes impossible to select neutral. However if I turn bike off then turn ignition back on it slides to neutral with no problems.

I'm worried that the clutch isn't disengaging the gear first before changing and it's causing damage. The bike was serviced and a new clutch fitted o ly a couple months ago.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Try adjusting the clutch lever, If that doesn't work may need bleeding.

Did you have the problem as soon as the new clutch was fitted?

Thanks lads. I have pazzo levers fitted and have adjusted them which hasn't sorted problem. I will get it to dealer and try bleeding the clutch.

The problem started about a week after the service and clutch fitted and has got progressively worse over time.

You can also try the following.

As mentioned the span/free play adjustment in the lever.
Bleed the system.
Dismantle and clean the clutch plates.

This should cure your problem. However, if the seals in the master and or slave cylinder are failing then fluid will pass by them. This would create the problem you are having.
An outside possibility is that the new plates have warped.

Post how you get on. :)

It's sorted.
 
Well finally I get round to looking at the bike. I was told that the problem may be bubbles in the clutch fluid and to try holding the clutch in against the bar for a couple of days to force bubbles out. Thinking I might aswell try as it won't cost anything I left clutch lever tied to bar for a while and today I took it off and took her out. No problems what so ever. On the padock stand in first and clutch pulled in the wheel stayed still. Took her out and up through gears and back down and she slipped in to neutral with ease.

I'm well happy a cheap and easy fix and she is back to her best. Thanks to everyone for the tips.

It does make life a lot easier when there is a bleed nipple up at the Master cylinder.

I have the same problem!
 
I bled the slave cylinder, and I have tied up the clutch lever closed for a couple of hours how long do I need to do that for?
It did seem to work for a bout two minutes and then it went back to normal, I will leave it over night and see what happens?
