Timing Belts?? Hi Guys. I am a bit of a lapsed forum user I am afraid, not having ridden my bike for a couple of years. I have got the bug again to bring her out of storage and on the road/track again. The bike is a 748 BP with an 853 big bore kit. It was fully serviced 3 years ago after which it did about 300 trackday miles and then has been sitting unused in my garage for the past 2 years. My question is......... should I replace the timing belts?? Years ago, the general advice was that they should be changed every 2 years whatever, but I am wondering whether the materials have improved since then. Many thanks Steve |
Definitely replace the belts Steve. :) |
I'm with Neil, I would replace them especially if the engine hasn't been turned over on a regular basis. The pre-Testastretta engines such as the 748 and 916 have some tight angles around the tensioner pulleys that leave a set in the belts if they are left in one position for to long |
Ditto on the above. I defo change them out. Leaving them sat around does them no good at all.. |
OK thanks very much guys..........new belts it is then!! Steve |
