3000 RPM HANGUP
 

HI ITS MY FIRST TIME SO BE GENTLE.
JUST BOUGHT A YEAR OLD 999 AND ITS THE DOGS DANGLY BITS AFTER THE SP1 I HAD.
SMALL PROBLEM IS IT KEEPS 'HANGING-UP' AT APPROX 3000 RPM FOR 2 OR 3 MILES AND THEN REVERTS BACK TO NORMAL THEREAFTER
DID IT ABOUT 4 TIME OUT ON SUNDAY IN THE DRY BUT COOL CONDITIONS
ANY HELP AS TO THE PROBLEM BOYS & GIRLS

Is it tied to the engine temperature? You say it does it for 3 or 4 miles then behaves?
It could be the ECU trying to fuel for a varying engine temp. Once it's up to "normal" and the stat is controlling the temp, then the ECU can resort to and stay on the "normal" map.

I DONT THINK SO BUT I CANT BE SURE.
ITS SEEMS TO BE AFTER ABOUT 30 OR SO MILES AND COMES ON AT ANY TIME AFTER THE ENGINES HOT.
IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE MANUAL CHOKE SYSTEM IS THE MAIN ENRICHMENT ELEMENT WHEN COLD STARTING AND THE ECU ENRICHMENT IS ONLY VERY MARGINAL. BEING A BIT UN-EDJUCATED ON THE SUBJECT OF ECU'S
MAYBE AN INTERMITENT TEMP SENSOR PROB.

There isn't a manual enrichment on the fueling as such.
The "choke" simply cocks the throttles open a little and from this, along with the air, engine temps. The ecu fuels it accordingly.
If it's only happening once the engine is hot, then I'd suggest the fuelling isn't set up correctly.
Any "cold" conditions would cause some form of enrichment and this may be masking the set up inaccuracies.
Simple checks to check the colour of the plugs and exhausts could show it is running a little weak??
Also, the factory settings are usually in accordance with emissions regs. These are, as a rule of thumb, too lean for optimum runnng. They seem to run best at somewhere between 3% - 6% CO. For what it's worth, 4.5% is my usual preference.
Might be worth a chat with your dealer?

COULD IT BE ANYTHING WITH THE SET OF TEGS I HAVE ON THE BIKE(THEY WERE ON WHEN I GOT THE BIKE) IT LOOKS AS IF ONLY THE ONE PIPE AND THE BACK BOX HAVE BEEN CHANGED OUT. SHOULD IT HAVE BEEN RE-CHIPED WHEN THE OPEN EXHAUST WAS PUT ON OR IS IT THE SAME AS MY SP1 WAS AND RESETS ITSELF TO SUIT.

There are 2 or 3 different pipe options for the 999. Regardless of which one has been fitted, it should have been finished off with a replacement ECU. The exhaust swap has a greater effect on the 999's because it gets rid of the "cat".
They're not "chippable" and as such the whole unit needs swapping. Not cheap!!
They usually come free with the termis though.
There may be some id or part numbers on the ECU. It's at the side of the battery with two large multi pole connectors fastened to it.
If there are some, mail me them and I can possibly check which one you have.

Could'nt read a No. on the ecu. Will take the bike back to the dealers to let them sort it i think.

Im still looking into this one.
My local dealer rang Ducati's tech bod's and all they could come up with is there might be a air leek between intake/head
!!. Apparently there are a few 999 that have suffered from this problem, and from what i gather all in cold weather.
Sounds to me as if there clutching at straws. My dealer has not had the bike in yet to check it out but reading between the line's he's also under the same impresion that ducati have'nt a clue.
