748 has no power after 4000rpm Hi guys, Just wondered if anyone has had this problem. My 748 is 14 years old and usually quite reliable, but for some reason it's started playing up. My most recent issue is this, I put the bike in first gear and pull away fine, but the second I give it more throttle, the engine spins up but the bike don't go anywhere. I can only guess as to what it is, as the clutch will engage an disengage fine an the gear box seems ok too? |
fuel blockage? |
If the engine is increasing in revs but yourr speed does not increase proportionally, it would suggest the clutch is slipping. |
If the revs are going up and the speed isn't, it sounds very much like clutch slip to me. cheers Simon |
Thanks for the advice guys, I think after some investigating, there's a lot of slippage in the clutch, plus one of the cog storks in the clutch has snapped. So if anyone knows of a place or person who could help sort it for cheap? |

My fireblade had a similar issue on the isle of man in april, pulled perfectly upto 5000rpm then power stopped and the neddle whizzed round to the limiter. it turned out to be the clutch springs had lost there spring and shrunk a few mm causing clutch to slip. £8 on some new springs from ebay, an hour in the garage (probably be less with a dry clutch) and the bike was back to her best. I appreciate it's a different manufacturer but the symptoms sound very similar. Worth a shot for £8. |
That's cool I'll give that a try, also does anyone know where I can get a cheap clutch hub an basket from? Thanks,:) Lee |
