996 a step backwards/forwards? Hi, I have dibs on a 99 996 Biposto, subject to a test ride and insurance, I'll probably do the deed next week. Bike is at a dealers in the Shropshire/Midlands area so I'd be very interested if anyone on here had any history on it. PM me and I'll ask off forum. I've fancied a Ducati for years but had to get the IL4 1000 trip out of my system 1st! Currently I ride a Boxercup which I love to bits but tbh its a bit heavy for me and a bitch to steer quickly. Hence also riding a 600 SRAD for TD's & stuff. If I go through with the deal - I'll be back on here for sure. Thanks for reading. |
I have bought the bike, an 02 996 Biposto with 23,000 on the clock. Pick it up friday after a service, fluids change and new belts. Then I get to ride it 100 miles to Diggle, Oldham - cant wait! |
Very nice! You'll probably need to train your brain to ride a twin, as it won't scream like an IL4. You'll also think you're going quite slow because the sound is different, so keep an eye on the speedo! |
We bought a 998 bip back in May and I can only echo Ant's comments above - the thing is an absolute missile and you dont notice how fast you are actually travelling. So far have had 3 tugs from plod - but to find out what it is, rather than what I was doing! |
I hated the 600 SRAD I had as a race bike even with all the right bits fitted, took it to Pembrey for one race meeting and that was enough, sold it soon after, the 600K2 I had a couple of years later was a lot better but both are eclipsed by all the Ducatis I have raced or trackdayed be it a 748, 916, 996 or a 998. Get it set up right and you'll love it |
OK I am picking up the bike, an 02 996 with 24k miles on Friday. Full service, all fluids and new belts. I am intending to be at the workshop when they do the work so I can check under the fairings that all is OK. Then its a 100 mile ride to Oldham for an overnight & a run round S Yorks & the Peak district before home Saturday afternoon. I fear it will be a wet ride so I hope she doesn't let me down. |
I've had my 996 for 10 years now and won't get rid of it. I dallied with a gsxr750 (k2) a couple of years back, but it left me cold and i got rid of it within 6 months. Once you get used to it, you'll love it. Nothing else comes close |
