MD Racing

Hi all, been a while since I've been on here but thought I'd let you know the problems the garage has found with my 998 which had been laid up for a few years since MD Racing worked on it.

MD was the last garage to work on the bike and nothing had been done to it since.

Verbatim from current garage

Hi, sorry to say there's a problem with your forks.
They don't work.
The rebound damper has a spring and valve missing, plus a fault with the cartridge not allowing the damper rod to travel freely, they really need to go to a specialist to be sorted out. You also have a non standard preload spacer fitted and your preload was wound fully in.
The cost will be approx £150 labour plus parts and carriage.
Please let me know asap if you want me to go ahead as the bike will be stuck on the ramp while they are away.
Turnaround time will be about a week.

I can't prove it was MD Racings fault, but since the bike was fine prior to going there and hadn't ridden since its fair to say it was (especially as they supposedly serviced the shock and forks)

Just a heads up for anyone considering using them

Cheers

Maybe have a chat with Mike Dawson. I used to use him for work on my bike untill i moved abroad. He was even prepared to tutor me on a one to one basis for desmo valvegear service. In fact he even highlighted issued caused to my bike from another main dealer.

As anyone who runs a buisness, the big boss needs to know what is going on to be able to take any action, he may have had an employee doing bad work, you may not be alone.

Mike had worked on my bikes for years prior to me moving a long way away, and I never had an issue with his or his team's work. He prepped my race bikes for a couple of seasons and always kept my feet on the ground when it came to costs/mods.

Any update on this??

I wouldn't slate MD until you have spoken to him and confirmed what you thinks happened - and he's had a chance to let you know his side and rectify it if it was his fault - although that sounds pretty shocking.

Send them to Maxton they wont let you down.

I know this is an old thread, but I would like to say my 998 has just been in to MD Racing to solve a lumpy / lurching problem and I found Clint to be a real gent, going through everything and explaining what he had done even to the extent of thinking it was fine, waiting till cold and re testing and phoning to explain that something still wasn't right, bike is lean when off throttle, however it is running very nice now, Mike advised getting the injectors serviced but explained that it was my choice
TBH I will be heading straight there for any of my future services, as the main dealer it used to be serviced at didn't really seem that interested even though I had just spent over £1000 with them for service and tyres only 6 weeks before hand

Richard
