Monster … What model! Am looking for one of these for a second bike, sit on, key in, go, lots of fun ……….. So; on the s/h market which is the one to go for? Much thanks .. |
I have a S2R 800 that I use for just that, went to the Ace Cafe on it yesterday and the local bike night this evening. when I take the 996 or 998 out I tend to wear my one piece leathers where as on the Monster its likely to be my two piece or textiles |
You deffo want an S2R 800. I have one for sale too.... :) |
I had thoughts on either a M900 or a M1000DS, okay then looks like the S2R 800 is the favourite. For a decent example hopefully with goodies what do you girls/guys reckon on the vintage and good value money? |
Mine is on a 06 plate so none of the latest Lambda stuff in the exhaust I have changed to 320mm discs and 4-pot calipers mainly because I bought mine wth a damaged front end so these bits needded replacing Other goodies I have ftted are folding CRG bar end mirrors and CRG stubby brake and clutch levers, the APTC slipper clutch is really light so works well with the stubby lever. I have also fitted a 14T front sprocket as I feel the standard gearing has it over geared. The CAT had to go as its just ugly so a De-Cat pipe was sourced off Ebay and makes the bike sound beter even with the standard cans. Mine also has Carbon Hugger, tail piece, front fender and side panels, all except the side panels were on the bike when i got it. I'm looking at fitting a bellypan and LED indicators that I already have just need to get around to doing it among all the other projects I have on. |

Dont disregard the 900 or 1000DS bikes. They are just as good as the S2R.In fact,if you have big feet like me,you may not like the 'R'.I found my right foot was at a crazy angle to avoid the high level exhaust and my left foot rubbed on the swingarm.Very offputting. I borrowed a 1000DS from Italia Moto and fell in love with it.The motor was a peach and the handling superb. The 900's have a differant frame, based on the 888,and the handling is best described as,.....erm,.....'loose'!;)  Just my 2p worth. |
and there is always the S2R 1000 with the DS engine Other than my old M600s I have only ridden a highly modified S4 and My S2R, now I wouldn't want the water cooled version for my every day bike not when I have a 996 and 998, so the air cooled motors make sense. A M800 is also an option if like KB your feet foul on the arm and exhaust of a S2R |
I've been using a '54 plate 620 as a commuter / temporary-only bike and while it doesn't have the grunt of the 800/900/1000 it a) can be ridden flat out on ex-DD Diablos everywhere up to about 90mph and b) cost under a grand. and c) can be yours for around £1200   |

Would they be the ZR rated Diablos  I agree with Keefy about the S2R, I've got yer average issue size 9's and the zorsts still push my heel out to an uncomfortable position where your ankle feels like it's going to fall off after 20 mins. I don't agree with the 888's handling being 'loose' though - that's just my bowels when I chuck it in too fast  |
Yep, if they'd been H rated they wouldn't have been approved for double use in a post......... |
