FIM Chip or Power commander for 996?

Hello All,

A quick pick of your brains if I may.

I'm pondering going down the FIM chip or power commander route to improve throttle response and mid-range power. My machine is standard except for 50mm termi's, DP chip and OEM replacement Pipercross (thank you Skidlids) air filters.

What would be your recommendations please?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

To get the best of either they will both need setting up , If it was me I would opt for a PC3 USB as I'm a control freak and like to alter things if I wish to and the PC3 USB and associated software makes things real simple, Quite a few Maps about for the PC3 that you could try as they're easy to upload

on my 996 I have a JHP chip which I think works very well. So maybe worth giving them a shout.

I’ve never used a power commander but the appropriate JHP chip and simple set up is working great for me James (think it was £58.00 all done). Depends how much you’d like to get involved I think…

Like Ian said - really depends on ££££

PC3 USB & Custom map - circa £570 fitted

PC3 USB & Std Map - circa £320 fitted

FIM chip - FIM no longer trading - so it's an ebay or dsc job - mine for my 748sps cost £120 a few years ago

JHP chip - as Ian said

I've got an FIM chip in my 748sps and it is superb - Motorapido have the software to set it up I think

FIM would be my choice..............if you find one

But I'm sure you'd be happy with JHP & they're on ongoing business!!

Thanks to you all for your help.

Best regards,

James

Is the JHP chip adjustable though? If not, you're stuck with the map it offers, which may or may not be decent. And you'd need to get on a dyno to check, set it up (if its adjustable).

Not too many can set the FIM up either and its now obsolete.

So I'd go Power Commander route, far more options in terms of rolling road / dyno centres who can set this up for you. And you can link in a quick shifter to the PCIII which is nice!! ;)

There's newer versions of the PC (V?) out too, that have much more configurability, if that takes your fancy.

FIM made a superb eprom for the 996 that ran on 1 injector per cylinder vs. the stock 2 per cylinder.
No other eprom does this. As rattler mentioned, only the FIM were adjustable to, albeit with the FIM software.
Try Sigma Performance as Neil may have a few left???

If not, i'd go down the PC route but whilst having it mapped, do the single injector mod and have the fuelling sorted to suit. The 996 really does run well on that set up.

Thanks indeed TO YOU ALL.

I will look into this a little more, I was thinking FIM, but taking into consideration they no longer trade maybe a PC would seem senisble.

Regards.

Seconded. Nelly did the single injector mod on my 996 and it made a world of difference.

Cheers

Neil just out of interest do you know what the duty cycle of the single Injector is at full throttle and peak revs with the above FIM setup. Not that many 996s on the road run flat out for any real amount of time
