Number Plate Size
 

I am going to get rid of my big standard number plate on the 749. Already got the tidy.

I don't want to go too small so that I am always pulled but at the same time want something smaller and tidier.
What is the consensus of size that would be appropriate?

I've just bought a 7x5 inch jobbie, which is probably bang on with the tail tidy, nice clear lettering etc

agree that 7x5 is the way to go.

i had a 2x7 one liner on mine but got pulled so will revert to the 'sqaure' type from now on.

saw your location, and strongly advise you to keep it as near as possible to required size - particularly if riding out at w/ends in the Surrey/Sussex areas:o
The boys in blue get a bit 'trigger-happy' with numberplates & cans on a sunny Sunday......

Iffy plate leads onto all sorts of things......

Thanks C, going to go for the 7x5 as I don't want to attract attention to myself.

Was going to try and find the Black Swan last Sunday but had a bit of a bad day / night Saturday and was in no fit state to drive anything.

Work and weather allowing I will try to do as many DScmeets etc as possible.

Mine is 5x7 on my 748. I think it looks good and doesn't seem to attract too much unwanted attention.

I have a 7x5 carbon plate on my 749. That is the width of the bracket I got.

We were stopped in a Sunday "safety check" by Thames Valley police. My mate was nicked for a 2inch hight plate and another for race cans. They looked at my plate and let it go.

There is a specification for plates that includes not only character hight, but also the font used, the sapcing, the yelloq border width and (beleive it or not) it is also a legal requirement to have the dealer name across the bottom of it.

Obviosuly it depens on whether they are keen enough though (revenue collection might be down that day!) :biaggi:

I don't use that plate now as it broke at the mounting holes - took someone on the pillion, and going over a bumby bit of road the suspension grounded catching the plate on the tyre which dragged it round and also the exhaust mountings damaged the carbon hugger. Dealer said to increase compression damping half turn and that felt better the next time!

I had heard the bit about the dealer name on the bottom etc but surely that is only from new. If the car plate breaks you don't go back to the dealer that could be miles away you go to Halfrauds or the like??
