nice enough spec and Baines built so will go well

ported heads tho; does this mean it won't qualify for C1?

If the heads are ported at Baines then what it really means is they have just been cleaned up a bit, as far as I know Baines haven't got a flow rig so do do proper porting without one of those isn't easy.

I'll see if I can call in and see Geoff in the next week or two and see what he would have done and Providing it is only clean up work and it isn't over the BHP limit we could allow it.

I'm pretty sure if we checked through all the DD bikes we would find some clean up work has gone on, just like the crankshaft balancing was going on before it was allowed

Cranker V2 12-Dec-2011 13:42

Confused! I am, what is porting then? If its not done measuring CFM it ok?

skidlids 12-Dec-2011 19:23

Depends on ones point of view, Cleaning off casting flash marks and matching the inlet port to the inlet manifold isn't really porting in my experience, although some may consider it to be porting.
where as machining the port or adding material to change its shape or dimensions is a bit different and is what I consider to be porting.

So where the advert says it has been ported and there has been a charge added to the bill for it, its sometimes worth finding out exactly what has been done, if its a true porting job then its become a tuned engine, if its just had the casting flash marks etc cleaned then its part of blue printing an engine because you can bet the engine wasn't designed with them.
Quite a few race series over the years have ruled out tuning but allowed blue printing

Doesn't stop it happening, just as in the days when you weren't allowed to touch the crankshaft, engine builders were still balancing them and I know there are bikes out there with the ports cleaned up.
I know most of the guys in front of me would be beating me anyway so why should I stump up a £250 protest fee, for something that is hard to prove at the track as Ducati ports are hand finished anyway, when whats really needed is for me to improve my riding

And if nobody has had their valves ground in I would be shocked and if they can gring valves in without removing material I'll be shocked even more

As Ron says its a Can of Worms and only costs £250 a time to open it

To be fair I think the DD rule are bang on with the bhp limit. Blueprint, porting, gas flow, etc all need to be below the bhp limit.

Cranker V2 12-Dec-2011 20:56

I may then well change my mag wheels and enter Class 1C. Is the bhp limit confirmed yet Kev?
