Tent, awnings, gazebos - wot eva!!!

Right - as things are fast approaching "bring it on" time, I reckon its time I sorted out how the hell I'm gonna spend the restless nights before the race days.

I might get the use of a van at some of the races, but not all, so I do need some kind of tent type affair for me and some kinda protection / cover for the Mini Moni, both during the day and overnight !!!

I know that Lizzie posted similar up recently, but what's the story on being able to pitch a tent at all the tracks? For example, whats the Bobby at Brands? Or are we camping at the inside of graham hill bend??????

Are hardstanding tents / awnings / gazebos the order of the day or what?

If I do go and get one of these multi-roomed covered area type tents that Lizzie reffered to will I be able to use that at all events - can these be hardstanding?

Any tips appreciated.

dunno really tim. I'll have the bike under the gazebo so when that's parked on concrete it'll need anchoring... I'm hoping a couple of tyres on each front leg and the back legs ties to the winnebago.

Best idea would be to plead a lack of space in the car prevents you bringing a tent so you could blag a bag in with someone else - and since you prob won't sleep anyway, ask mr harris!

If you get stuck, you can borra me little tent... big enough for you and a couple of brolly birds to kip in but the bike will have to stay outside.

You'll always find a bit of grass somewhere, unless you want to sleep right next to you bike?

Why not get 2-3 to chip in £75 each and buy a heeeeuge party tent type thingy like what I have.

6m x 4m like a double garage, was about £180-£200 I think maybe less. Have a look on ebay.

You can then all park your bikes in that securely overnight, and camp wherever you want.

888heaven 04-Apr-2005 23:45

Get yourslelf a VW camper park it anywhere:lol:

Rattler 04-Apr-2005 23:59

Nick - I might take you up on that offer of a tent - ta!

But can you always camp overnight within the circuit grounds?

If you can that's sorted then, I'll sort a tent and I'm away.

If you can't get close to where the bike is parked, then there's little point in getting a tent that'll cover the bike too is there?

Trouble is, I've not been to many club race meetings and never really took much notice of accomodation options.

Can you get tents that'll pitch on hard ground? Or are these specialist jobbies? I spose its just a matter of getting good anchoring from somewhere.

Time for a search of ebay I reckon !!

Domski - good shout, lets go for a group buy, anyone interested in getting a mansion-tent? The staff have gotta sleep somewhere!!!

Might be an option though. Anyone gonna be at all races that can offer space for the night? Eitther for me or Monnie, or both?

£179

Tim, to answer one of your questions is:-yes you will be able to camp at all tracks. Even when it is a one day event most people turn up the afternoon before to sort themselves and bikes out. Not sure where you would pitch a tent at Brands other than on the tarmac in the outer paddock, but then when we were there last year we slept in the motorhome-posh us is.;)

You should have a lot of sponsors to need this :(

And for the walls, 4 like this:

http://www.castorama.fr/boutique/sku...questid=137673

50 euros with shipping and the place for 2 bikes, I don't need more.

I can highly recommend these people. I had lots of stuff off them last year and they were very very good.

I'd like to say if anyone is stuck one evening for accommodation then there is space in my awning for a couple of bods providing you bring your own sleeping bags.

Oh and if theres only tarmac to pitch your gazebo on then - then 5 gallon containers filled with water anchor a gazebo quite well.

Rattler 05-Apr-2005 00:43

Nice one - looks like we're getting somewhere with this;

With a gazebo from Homebase for the bike and a small tent that I can pitch inside it, a water containers to hold it down - result - thanks peeps.

Paul James 05-Apr-2005 10:01

Ive got a big gazebo with sides that is surplus to requirements £50 if anyone needs it.

Lily 05-Apr-2005 10:24

Tim

I have a couple of small tents you could us if you need them. One is a super duper tiny mountain tent and you can actually pitch it on hard ground if needed although its not ideal. The second is slightly larger and has a small porch area for cooker etc if needed.

I might take you up on that offer Lil - I'm not gonna need one for the first event as I've got a van I can kip in, but may be camping at Castle Combe.

Anyone know whether there's good areas to camp at CC?

Thanks
Tim

That's great thanks, I don't take up too much room and I am house-trained!!!

I'm sure I will have sorted something out by then, but thanks anyway!
