748 Fairing fit

A simple job gone wrong!
Replaced the nasty standard screws on my fairing with Dzus fasteners.
Now the sidestand mount and exhaust are touching the left lower slightly, the fairing needs to move away from the bike.
Any ideas?

It should be OK.....

....seems like a tolerance issue. Try adjusting the fairings where they fit together to gain enough clearance to make them fit.

Other than that a size 4 hammer will sort it nicely!!!

Cheers Weeksy and Tim, the tabs are located correctly. I will probably have to do a bit of fine tuning with it and then take the size 4 to it.

I don\'t see why it doesn\'t fit then.....

.....why would it be different if all you did was replace the fittings.

I assume it fitted OK before?

Now thats similar but not the same.

My 748s already has all the Dzus fasteners.
Its recently been serviced and now the lowerleft side of the fairing is sitting on the exhaust and happily melting away.
I've crawled over this bike so much before I know it never used to be like that.
For the life of me I cannot see any way of adjusting its position.
I took it back to my dealer and they are somewhat confused as they could not find anyway to reposition the fairing(or the exhaust) where it would not foul.
The advice was to 'trim' the fairing or stick a big rubber block onto the pad just aft of two threaded holes at the bottom of the engine case. I'm not really happy with either solution.
It only needs about 5mm to clear with ample space.

I'd like to know if you manage to resolve the problem.

my 748 came with dzus fasteners when i bought it i thought they had them as standard ???

Andy 13-Aug-2003 20:58

748 Bip's and E's come with high quality? screws.
748s's upwards come with Dzus.

Weeksy, I removed all the fasteners and the fairing lowers, followed by a good clean.
When I replaced all the parts I did not notice the poor fit at first.

If you want I can nip round and give you a hand if you let me know where you are.
Two minds and all that.

I am at Garforth or Morley depending on whether the painters are home or not? :sing:
