The hydraulic movement of the push-rod/cylinder should not alter as it is fixed. If anything wear or air in the system would create less movement. Sounds more like the stack is incorrect/rusty/dirty...

Tried the other side Kev and the fan is just on all the time as if it's hot or something. It's now hard wired through the old 996 fan switch and works fine. Still would like to find the issue though....
