Not sure if the 1299 is the same as my old 1199, but there was a small black plastic trap door under the passenger seat/hump for the tool kit to squeeze into.

Just measured the length of the ride height...

Just measured the length of the ride height adjuster of my 1198 parked on her sidestand. Measures 170mm centre eye to centre eye. Hope this helps.

I just took my bulbs and holders out from the lenses and gave all the lenses a good wipe with white spirit on a cloth. It all strips down nicely and you dont have to pry the glass out as some have...
