Why pay for an oil & filter job or even for changing brake pads...Most bike owners should be able to do these. I do though take the bike in for the major services.

Aren't you getting the service a bit early? By my conversion you've got another 3000 or so miles yet, I live in metric land and not quite sure what you mean by "1st service". I've done over 5000klms...
