Twist the bell mouths they should then come off allowing you to remove the airbox, they are only hand tight.
I can't remember whether they twist anti clockwise or clockwise!

Surely though if you are not using water you run a higher risk of scratching your paintwork??

I asked at my local dealer about a 749/99 shock for my 748 and was told they are different and do not fit, so ended up going with an Ohlins instead!
