I don't understand why you have had to run the regsvr command to be honest.
But getting back to your original question..
1. connect to the internet (Dial up/broadband... whatever)
2. click start>run type cmd and click OK
3. at the command prompt type "ping www.yahoo.co.uk" (without the speech marks)
If you've got a connection you should see a message along the lines of reply from .......
If not you'll get reponse timed out.....
Try replacing yahoo with a few other URL's
www.google.com www.ducatisportingclub.com you get the message just to prove if you have got a connection
