Winning Monster chosen from 20th anniversary display at Motorcycle Live One of the highlights of this year’s Motorcycle Live show has undoubtedly been Ducati UK’s Monster 20th anniversary stand. Celebrating the last 20 years of this iconic motorcycle, Ducati brought together nine significant models from this period for a dedicated display. The net was thrown far and wide to source these from owners in order for visitors to appreciate them at Motorcycle Live.
At an exclusive VIP evening held during the show, a panel of judges were called upon to vote for the Monster that encapsulated not only the quality of the machine but also the passion of the owner.
The judging panel comprised of Ducati Sporting Club President, Antony Espindola, Moto Rapido owner, Steve Moore and Ducati racing legend, Paul Smart. After inspecting the bikes and reading the owners' biographies, the judges, after some deliberation, reached a unanimous decision, choosing Liz Evans’ 2006 S2R800. Liz has ridden her Monster all over Europe and has many stories to tell (see Liz’s story) and yet the bike has been well maintained and loved in a way only a Ducati Monster could. In the words of one of the judges,
"It's the one I'd choose if I was looking for a used Monster to buy". Tim Maccabee, Managing Director of Ducati UK commented on the Monster display,
“Everyone knows what an important part the Monster plays in the recent history of Ducati and of course it is not only a Ducati legend but also one of the most familiar and respected bloodlines in the Motorcycle world. It was therefore fitting to have such a great display at the Motorcycle Live event, put together with the significant help of the UK Monster Owners Club. It was also appropriate that the winning bike, as with most bikes on the stand was not a mothballed museum piece but a bike in regular and enthusiastic use.” The runners up were, Ann Guy with her 1994 Monster 600 and John Probert with his immaculate 2008 Monster S4RS.
