Isnt owning a bike all about freedom and individuality??? I think 'personalising' your own machine is a part of putting your own stamp on it - for whatever reason.
Likewise - I'm still having a love/hate relationship with my 944ss at times but every time I pull the cover off her - I still cant help but grin
As for desireable goodies - I've always been led to believe that lightweight wheels are where the biggest pay back comes? Magnesium Marchesini, Dymag, Marvic seem to be very popular.
I love the idea of an R1 front end though - time for a look on E-bay I think
