I think they became champions through getting a number of factors right; it was the new 800cc era and their bike was way ahead of the rest with an exceptional rider on it. It took the Japanese factories by surprise and they struggled to catch up in time to stop Stoner winning the 2007 title.

It does seem that Ducati are having a lull at the moment, and that scrutiny is even more intense with Rossi in the seat, but as the guys on Eurosport were saying this weekend: Racing is cyclical. Each manufacturer will have their day as they find an improvement over the others. It's a game of leap-frog and at the moment Ducati are bringing up the rear.
