Its not the cost of the cable that denotes p/i compatibility, it should state on the label or write up whether the cable is for p or i use.

You can buy £3 worth of "i" cable or you can buy £3 worth of "p" cable.

Like I said in a previous post, because the cable deals in digital it will either work or it won't work........yours didn't and should have been replaced for you.
