I would say in short that £6k was much too much for a 2000 996. That's easily 998 money. Good clean 996s seem to be going for around £4k.

So, if you want a 996 you can pick one up for less. Or if you have £6k to spend you could get a 998.

(Personally I wouldn't want an eleven year-old bike which had done 2k miles, either. That's either a lot of short journeys, or a lot of standing.)
