Pretty sure they won't fit the bikes with the early frame (the one with the plates to which the footrest assemby is attached, rather than lugs). As Jools said, not sure why you would have to go for a race-pattern change, but I agree you might have to experiment with linkages etc. I actually tried a race parrten shift for a while, but went back to normal eventually. It wasn't the pattern itself that was a problem - you soon get used to that, except when you have a lapse in concentration - I just didn't like it. It felt all wrong, especially when accelerating hard. Mind you, quite a few racers use it, so it's probably just me! I think I've still got a lever (actually from a 9xx) if anyone wants to try it.
