Just dug my invoice out, yep Motul Oil, not Shell Advance, bikes not here at the moment so am unable to see if they have changed the sticker on the casing ???

Not a problem using a different oil as long as it meets the same recognised specifications. The manual will list a grade of Shell Oil, and then by Euro law, list the necessary specifications for others oils to comply with.
Shell will pay Ducati fortunes to have the listing in the book and the sticker on the case, but, you can use other oils.
