Put me down for a Stainless one please Stu, especially since Ducati Leeds have indeed confirmed that Ducati discontinued this item.

Course the really clever thing to do would be to incorporate the "breakage" guard into the sprocket cover and make the whole shebang in Titanium.

Might just have to do a bit more research into this one.

thanks for the replies guys. the chain was the orginal one that came with the bike, only 7500 miles on it

from wot i can see it's only the alternator cover thats damaged, rang ducati dublin today 580 euro for the cover plus 2 hours to fit

had 7 days in france and tickets to french gp booked and paid for! won't be able to go now gutted

suppose it could have been worse!
