I was informed that originally 500 were made for homologation purposes which all sold or ordered by delaers immediately so they made another 100, this being the reason there were still a few new ones knocking about in dealers until recently.
My dealer and a couple of press articles that I read stated that Ducati actually lost money on the 749R when they released it at £13500 as it cost them £200 for every bike sold, probably lost quite a bit more with any that were discounted to 'get rid of' although Khu996 still found that big discounts were not being offered when he got his ( Have you got it yet ?)
This is probably why they have downgraded the specification for the 05 models to recoup some of there losses.( Looks like it did not help ! )
