916 & Bellowing sound from fuel pump?

Went out today got stranded, took a while for the old girl to start today, put it down to lack of use. Went for a spin.

She (916 1998 Bip) lost power and stopped. Lots of petrol but the tank was making a bellowing noise. Pump is moving but seems no fuel. Bike started a few times but kept stopping.

Could it be blocked filters? If so where are they and is it easy to check. The noise is a really loud bellow as if the pump is desperately trying to suck and is not getting anything? I am thinking filter blocked? Any other scenarios? Ta

Does the tank make a hiss when you lift the fuel filler cap? If so it could be just the breather tube is trapped and so a vacuum is created inside the tank as the pump runs...once the negative pressure of that vacuum equals the positive pressure that the pump can deliver, no more fuel ain't goin nowhere.

No it does it with the cap off! Have left it with my mechanic, I am hoping it is a blocked fuel filter (never changed well not in the 6 years I have had it!) Had to wait for 2.5 hrs to be recovered by SOS Bike recovery FFS!!!!

I would change the fuel filter whether its blocked or not.If you are having fuelling problems, that would be a good place to start.
