Are all front mudguards the same?

Will a Mk.2 999/749 mudguard fit a mk.1?

Think you probably ended up with a 748/916 type as all 749/999 types are the same fitment with one hole at the front and one at the rear of fork

So how do you explain the fact that a 2003 999 has the same forks as a 2006 999 -how can the mudguards be different fitment?
