Not listed in the recalls database as yet:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp
Enter Ducati as manufacturer and search from Jan 2004 to December 2005(defaults)
Oooh, risk of ST's bursting into flames

I have read this, and I'm very interested.

How high up the frame numbers does the recall go??? "0059" is pretty low, which must make it a 2003 bike?

Are all non-radial 749 models affected i.e. Dark, 749 and 749S??????

The letter isn't very informative, but then they're probably trying to avoid mass Ducatisti panic!

The brakes have got to be one of, if not the, most important things on the bike, I was worried when Twinfan and others had problems, now it seems DUK have found some kind of problem...doesn't instill much confidence in the bike at the moment

It may only affect very early bikes, so I wouldn't go into a blind panic just yet...

Just found this on a US site:

DUCATI / 749S 2003
DUCATI / 999 2003
DUCATI / 999S 2003
Manufacturer : DUCATI NORTH AMERICA

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 04V585000

Recall Date : DEC 07, 2004

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Potential Number Of Units Affected :

Summary: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE FRONT BRAKE HOSE CAN BECOME TRAPPED BETWEEN THE LOWER STEERING FLANGE AND THE STEERING LOCK PEG WHEN THE VEHICLE IS CORNERING.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF FRONT BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE AND DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE HOSE, WHICH COULD RUPTURE CAUSING FRONT BRAKE FAILURE. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A RETAINING CLIP ON THE FRONT BRAKE HOSE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-408-253-0499.

Notes: CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
