Oulton Park pays Hislop tribute

Steve Hislop will be honoured at Oulton Park this weekend with the unveiling of Hizzy's chicane.

Hislop was killed in a helicopter accident in Scotland last month and the Cheshire circuit will unveil their tribute when the British Superbike Championship arrives this weekend.

Hislop, the reigning champion, had been due to ride for ETI Ducati on his 2002 title-winning machine this weekend.

The remodelled Knickerbrook chicane will be renamed Hizzy's in Hislop's honour while Hislop's legendary Isle of Man TT-winning Norton will sit in pole position as a minute's silence is observed.

Series director Jos Foulston said: "To commemorate Steve Hislop's tragic passing we have arranged to pay tribute to the highly respected champion at Oulton Park this weekend.

"We will be naming the new chicane immediately prior to the warm-ups at 12.00pm on Sunday.

"I understand that Oulton Park was Steve's favourite UK circuit. As a mark of respect, Hizzy's 1992 TT Winning Norton Rotary will be ridden for one lap by MonsterMob Ducati's Stuart Easton - Hizzy's 2002 team-mate and fellow resident of Hawick.

"Stuart will open the new corner by cutting a ribbon that will be placed across the circuit. His riding through it will officially open the new corner."
